Children may be encouraged to overcome challenges in their lives by creating a talisman in the form of a medal that represents a shift in attitude.

The class will look at their heros and qualities they respect. We will view history with this in mind and identify truly great persons and their influence on human life. Each child will determine what adjustment or change in behavior would make a difference in their own lives and their relationship to the world they live in.

This mixed media jewelry project incorporates metal-working skills including sawing, metal forming, piercing, wire rapping, making rivets and stamping. Design concepts will be looked at after our discussions.

In addition to developing self-confidence and responsibility in this self defining process, students will perceive history from a social studies perspective. A breadth of cultural, racial, scientific and scholarly influences will be included in our initial research.
